Container Inspection & Certification

ASM provides independent container surveys for shipping lines, container lessors, freight forwarders, logistics operators, cargo insurers and P&I Clubs. From our base in Beirut, we inspect dry, reefer, open-top, flat-rack and tank containers at Lebanese ports, container terminals, depots and consignees' premises. We provide clear condition data, damage evidence and compliance assurance.

As the Lloyd's Agent in Beirut since 2015, ASM works to international container inspection standards. Our in-house surveyors are certified in Lloyd's Technical Cargo Surveying, Module 2.

Container Survey Services

Condition surveys and certification: on-hire, off-hire and interchange surveys, with structural and cargo-worthiness checks
Damage surveys: cause and extent of damage to containers and contents, repair estimates and liability evidence
Stuffing and unstuffing supervision: loading, stowage and discharge, with tally and photographic records
Lashing and securing: checks and calculations for heavy, oversized and break-bulk cargo inside containers
Repair supervision: reviewing depot repair estimates and attending repairs
Light-tightness and water-tightness tests: checking for holes, damaged seals and water ingress

Reefer Container Inspections

Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI): checking the refrigeration unit, settings and alarms before loading
Temperature data logger analysis: downloading and interpreting reefer records to establish when and how a temperature deviation occurred
Cargo deterioration investigations: for perishable, chilled and frozen cargo, including fruit, meat, pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs
Reefer machinery checks: compressor, power supply, set-point and ventilation settings

Reefer claims depend on reading the data correctly. ASM's surveyors have extensive experience establishing whether a loss was caused by the unit, by incorrect settings, by power interruption or by the cargo's condition before shipment.
